I had this exact book as a child, back in the early 70's. I devoured all of Marguerite Henry's books repeatedly back then, and anytime I see the artwork from the covers of 'King of the Wind' and this book, I feel like I'm looking at pictures of old friends. Thanks to reading and re-reading Ms. Henry's books in my youth, I have always had a special spot for Arabian horses. The big, fancy barn where I work and board my horse actually has a grey Arab gelding who looks like the one on the cover of this book. Seeing him every day made me want to own this book again and I was thrilled to find it still in print. I'm 52 years old now and I still have horse-fever, thanks to authors like Marguerite Henry, Jean Slaughter Doty, CW Anderson, and Mary O'Hara. I love the trip down memory lane that this book invokes!
Bought this for my horse crazy 8 year old granddaughter. I still have the one my mother gave to me when I was about the same age 60 years ago. I loved this book then and still cherish it now. We compared the old and new books and the artwork is exactly the same. Ours came with the newer cover despite the photo showing the original vintage cover.which is what I thought I was getting.
I have loved this book since childhood (early 1960s).I am so happy to have it back in my collection.
This is a beautiful book about horses. Coffee Table quality. My granddaughter fell in love with the book in a store at Buffalo Bill’s Museum in Cody, WY. The price was more than I wanted to spend. Once we returned home I found the book at Amazon for a much better price and surprised her with it for Christmas!
I love this book and gave it to my granddaughter who loves horses. I had my own copy as a child. The well-written descriptions of various horses includes illustrations. It’s compelling and informative. If you or your child or your grandchild are interested in horses, this book is essential.
As a child I loved horses. I devoured this book. Over the years, it was lost. As an adult, I love horses and when I came across this on Amazon, I was elated. It brings back so many memories. I have friends who just visited Chincoteague and this book was compiled by Marguerite Henry, the author of Misty. Great gift for someone who loves horses.
So happy to see this book is still in print. I have mine from the 1960s and got this as a gift. My friend loves it. Gorgeous Wesley Dennis colored illustrations and we all love Marguerite Henry's writing.
If you were a horse-loving girl growing up in the 60s or 70s, you knew the name Marguerite Henry very well. As the author of King of the Wind, Misty of the Chincoteague, Album of Horses and many other horse-themed classics, she brought great horse stories and wonderful horse drawings into your life. This pop-up book is an abbreviated version of Album of Horses with only six pop-up spreads featuring the Arabian, the Welsh Pony, the Quarter Horse, the Hackney, the Lipizzaner, and the Thoroughbred. The pop-ups are good, but not spectacular. The factual copy is excellent for horse-lovers ages four and up.
